Reflection

For portfolio piece 7 a Wiki was prepared.  The piece will be used to share information on The Family. The Wiki has a homepage with still pictures and a hyperlink to a web source as well as a video was inserted. An invitation to view the wiki was also sent.

Wikis can be used as a way to share information with students beyond /outside the classroom. For example to summarise a lesson or to share notes.  It can also be used as an individual or group assessment project, for posting Rubrics for assignments as well as to post problem solving questions for students.

Preparing this piece proved a little challenging.  After uploading inserting the video onto the blog it would not open for me to view it. I tried uploading a different video but that proved to be difficult as well because the file was too large. In uploading the final video I had to first convert it. When editing my profile, the photo I wished to use exceeded the amount required so I had to resize it several times before it was successfully uploaded.

Reflection

For portfolio piece 6 a video was produced using Windows Movie Maker v 2.6.  The piece will be used to teach a lesson on the Functions of The Family.The video has twenty-five slides which contain the use of still pictures, music, animations, a title, captions and credits. The video was then uploaded to my blog.

The use of videos in the classroom is a good idea as it not only will generate interest and stimulate imagination, but it can help to stimulate critical thinking skills. Added to that, it can be used to give students a focused viewing assignment.  After viewing, students can discuss/explain something about the video.  Students can also be asked to write any thought that comes to mind after viewing the video.

Preparing this piece proved a little challenging. I noticed that whenever I made changes to the pictures either by lengthening or shortening them the animations and captions became off set. I solved this problem by readjusting/shifting the captions icon to the position where I wanted it.

I think the piece could be improved if a video which focuses on the structure of the family is added.
